Preservation Texas—the statewide nonprofit dedicated to historic preservation—is hosting a party on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the historic Kyle Log House to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month. Attendees will enjoy an afternoon of great food, music, and a silent auction in a one-of-a-kind historic setting!
Built circa 1850 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Kyle Log House is an extremely rare dogtrot log home that remains on its original site on a bluff above the Blanco River. The property is owned by Hays County and maintained by the Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission. After several years of being closed to the public, the site will reopen for the first time during this event.
Admission includes a Texas-style lunch of BBQ brisket, ribs, and fried chicken, plus homemade Dutch oven biscuits, cobbler, and “cowboy coffee” prepared over a campfire and served from an authentic chuck wagon originally from the legendary 6666 Ranch. The silent auction will feature antique items, Texas-themed gifts, and unique experiences. Guests will also get a first look at updated exhibits inside the Kyle Log House, featuring new discoveries from recent research.
The event will happen rain or shine under a big tent! Don’t miss this rare opportunity to explore an important site not typically open to the public, learn about its history, and connect with others while supporting Preservation Texas.
Tickets are now just $20 per person ($10 for children ages 12 and under) and include lunch, along with a complimentary one-year individual-level Preservation Texas membership for new members. Visit preservationtexas.org/ctxparty26 to learn more and purchase tickets.
